The Etiquette of Queueing In Modern Britain

In this series of posts, I will explore the etiquette of British queueing today.

Perhaps you, too, have been driven to distraction by improper queueing: by those who accidentally jump a queue or start an illegal double queue. Perhaps, like me, you have stared malevolently at the back of offenders’ heads. Perhaps, like me, you have written strongly-worded letters to the Daily Telegraph.

This guide is the solution. It is more necessary now than it has been for years.

As we will see, the traditional British queue is no more, supplanted by a modern alternative. Hence, many are unsure how to queue. Is a double queue acceptable? Should a queue curve? This guide will answer these questions and others.

I hope this guide will relieve much distress and lead to a Britain happier, more mindful and more at ease waiting in lines.
